Get to Know Me! (A "Favorites" List)
I feel like it's been a while since I did an "introductions post." In fact, I'm not even sure if I ever introduced myself "officially" on the blog. Needless to say, I've been wanting to get back into blogging for a while now, and doing more than just book reviews. So on my Instagram (@jennavanmourik), I asked you guys to name a thing, and I would share my favorite of that thing in a blog post (i.e., TV show, movie, food, etc...). I thought it would be a fun way to share more about me and what I enjoy! Some of these are from you, some are ones that I made up. I hope you enjoy this post—let me know if we have any of these in common. :)
Coffee Flavor - Mocha! Mocha! Mocha! I love making them at home, but I prefer grabbing them from Starbucks because then it doesn't make dishes! Haha. But if you were out shopping for me, I'd probably ask you to pick up a pack of Starbucks Veranda Blend (Blonde roast) K-cups for my Keurig, or a bag of Starbucks Veranda Blend coffee beans.
Ice Cream Flavor - Salted Caramel or Cotton Candy!
Snack - BBQ Chips or Trader Joe's Pasadena Salad
Candy - I love orange slices, cherry slices, and Mike & Ike candies, but just the original flavors.
Food - Soups and pastas!
Pasta - Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (Although lately I've been loving it with caulifloodles or cauliflower noodles, as you probably know them)
Movie - Hmmmmmmmmm... I feel like that changes depending on what time of year/season we're in. I'm a big "mood watcher." Some "classics" for me include Ben-Hur (the Charlton Heston version and the 2016 version), Prince of Egypt, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Right now though, I'm really into cozy, tear-jerker movies (cause, Fall/Winter and all the feels!). I highly recommend you watch Mr. Holland's Opus!
Pirates of the Caribbean film - Evil question! I've been a Pirates fan for a long time (see below pictures for proof). Here's my OFFICIAL ranking of the Pirates movies.... ONE: The Curse of the Black Pearl (It's the first, so it's a classic). TWO: At World's End (Ah, romance). THREE: Dead Men Tell No Tales (More romance, + the return of the Willabeth shipping!). FOUR: Dead Man's Chest (I love the humor in this one). FIVE: On Stranger Tides (Without a lot of the original cast, this one just doesn't seem to fit with the others... It's more like a spinoff. My preferred viewing order for the movies is 1, 2, 3, 5, 4, since not much happens in 4 and you can easily explain what happens between 3 and 5).
T.V. Show - Road to Avonlea. Easily. If you haven't watched/heard of this show, you're seriously missing out. It's by the same producers behind the Megan Follows Anne of Green Gables movies, and features cameo appearances from some of the same actors (Marilla, Rachel, even Gilbert Blythe comes back for an episode!). This show defined my childhood and I still watch it. ALL. THE. TIME. My husband and I even recreated scenes from the show for our engagement photos (Our wedding was Anne/Avonlea themed). See below for evidence! :D
Episode of Full House - I live for 80s and 90s sitcoms, so this questions is perfect except for one thing: you can't pick a favorite episode of Full House. It's impossible. I really love the earlier seasons though, when the kids were all young. One that sticks out to me in my mind right now is when Uncle Jesse's Greek family come to visit and DJ accidentally gets married. HILARIOUS.
Dress - Besides my wedding dress?
Recently, I've been loving my Dainty Jewells dress ("The Garden Reveries" dress). I just recently discovered their dresses and have been so pleased by the quality. This dress in particular is just so elegant, flowy, and I love the sleeves. I also love the small, green leaf pattern. It really feels like me, you know? Like, it feels comfortable, but also an accurate representation of who I am and what my personal style is. I recently wore it to my cousin's eighteenth birthday party, below:
Accessory - Hats! I love love love my hats!
Shoe - Boots. All boots.
Book - Not My Will by Francena Arnold, The Pharaoh's Daughter by Mesu Andrews, Land of Silence by Tessa Afshar, and the Little House on the Prairie books come to mind :)
Holiday - CHRISTMAS. I've already decorated!
"Man Candle" - HAHAHAHA! This question made me laugh so hard. If you didn't know, I really love "masculine" scented candles, and I kind of hoard them. I prefer them to floral scents or other scented candles. I call them my "man candles" or "mandles" for short (thanks for the laugh, Audrey). My go-to, old-standbys are Bath and Body Works' "Flannel" and "Mahogany Teakwood - High Intensity." Mmmmm. I also once had this candle that I found at a Ross once... It had a wood wick and was an ocean/musk/salty scent that was to die for. Lost it some time ago, but I think it was the original Mandle that I bought when I was 16. The one that started it all... *swoon*
Weather - There's nothing I love more than foggy/rainy days! I wish I could have them all the time!
Landscape - Forest/woods. I absolutely love trees and nature. I would love to live in a small town in a forest, that was right in nature, but also not too far of a drive to a city for the sake of convenience.
Flower - Calla lilies. I don't like regular lilies, but I'm obsessed with callas. They were all over the place at my wedding! I like how simple they are, they're not over the top, and they just have this graceful beauty to them.
Color - GREEN!!!
Animal - Piper.
Dog (Besides Piper) - I love mini Australian shepherds. Piper has forever changed me. But if I had to pick a SPECIFIC dog, Lady from Lady and the Tramp! Spaniels are also gorgeous!
Musical Instrument - I personally play piano and a little bit of ukulele, but the instrument that makes me the most happy is violins. I love listening to violin solos. I think violins and strings in general just play the music of my soul, the soundtrack to my life. My husband can play violin a bit as well! It's sort of a part of how we met/started dating. I overheard him talking about violins and knew he was the one - LOL.
Place to Write - I really love writing in a Starbucks. The ambience is great for focusing, plus, there's mochas... What more could you need? But lately, since I haven't been able to get out much, I've found that my favorite places to write are the coziest places (not necessarily in my office). Places like my bedroom, my couch, and next to the Christmas lights.
Well, there you have it! Roughly 25 of my "favorites" of all time. I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know what other kinds of posts you'd be interested in seeing—I really miss blogging regularly, and with college graduation right around the corner, I'm excited to get back into the swing of things.
Until next time, happy reading!
